In either case, the dependability of the observer must be unshakable; in a perfect world, numerous solid observers would be ideal, as is prove from optional research on the subject (McAllister, et al, 1993). Lets All Work Together

Let’s All Work Together I joined GEL because I want to be able to implement my ideas in the world. And people are half that equation. Last Friday, I led my wonderful new ELL (Engineering Leadership Lab) team in a Diverse Connections simulation lab where we faced this exact challenge. My ELL team has a course 22, course 1, course 16, two course 2 students + me (6-1). We’re all from different living groups, activities, walks of life. Our “Tiger Team” of multi-disciplinary engineers was tasked with trying to get three different Engineering divisions Electrical, Mechanical (Design), and Manufacturing across different three time zones to work together. Context: The international automotive company, Gelota, we worked for was facing reports of failures of the AC unit for the car leading to a few occurrences of smoke and sparking. This could lead to a major recall. Our task was not to find the cause of failures and redesign the part, but rather outline how the different teams will cooperate in order to achieve that goal. Why is this so difficult? We’ve all been in the position of trying to do a group project, but realized that getting different personalities to work together was often harder than actually doing the research and presentation. Finding how people can fit and work together was crucial to this companys success in avoiding a major recall. We had 70 minutes to come up with a plan for the next 6 months. At the end of 70 minutes, I had to give a presentation. Our success criteria? Whether all three representatives were satisfied that they will be able to work together with each other and with us. The Personalities: The lab kicked off with 7 minutes to read over the scenario. And then right of the bat, we faced our first contender: the uptight midwestern Electrical lead who had not a minute to waste. He had a million other projects and wanted us to be as hands-off as possible. What did we exactly need from him? Just tell him what to do and then he would do it. The Design team was the complete opposite. The Electrical lead had warned us that these Hawaiian pokies didn’t know what they were doing Operating out of a design studio in Honolulu, they valued a creative, laid back environment. Immediately the Design Lead greeted us with a “Hey What’s Up” and laid back in his chair with his feet on the table. With Google docs as their preferable means of communication and meetings to be a rarity in the office, we could tell that this team would NOT mesh well with the old-school electrical folks. Lastly, the Manufacturing lead comes to us immediately asking if they need to stop producing the product. I look at my team, and we have no idea. These labs force you to make decisions in the face of uncertainty. And this is often the case of how major industry decisions are made. She shares her experiences with her dedicated team that recently joined Gelota. He main concerns are knowing more about the design electrical specs to better create test conditions for the product before it goes out the door. We are relieved that she won’t be as hard as the other two to work with. Each sub team had their own priorities, own work ethic, own form of communication, own work hours, the list goes on. Getting all three to work together wasn’t going to be a cakewalk. Our Task: We had a bunch of things to figure out: What time/where/how often would meetings take place? List of roles/responsibilities for each member Schedule of major milestones Guidelines/norms for communicating And then the hardest of all: how do we address the concerns each subteam lead brought up? And all this has to happen in parallel with talking to the representatives. These labs are fast-paced with a million things thrown at you at once. Leading an ELL is like juggling ten books while a red timer is blaring in your face while you’re trying to land a crashing plane when everyone is depending on you. You are constantly thinking on the spot, communicating with team members and representatives, functioning at a 100% every minute all while looking at ease. It’s so exhilarating. And exhausting when it’s over. So why do we do it? No matter where you work or what you do you will have to work with other people. Whether it’s leading a non-profit to do a project in a community across the world or being the systems integrator on the next iPhone. A common perception of MIT students is honestly a bunch of engineers who aren’t socially savvy. We are here to prove them wrong. Every time I mention I’m a Electrical Engineering/Theatre Arts major, I get a funny look. But the world NEEDS us. It needs people who can analyze technical problems, translate them into tasks, and persuade people to get the job done. And practice makes perfect. The Final Product: This is a picture of our final plan that I had to pitch to the entire lab. And there’s not always time for rehearsal. I started off with thanking the representatives and inspiring us all to work together. Then I focused on making sure the ideas flowed from big picture to small details and tried to address individual concerns raised. After the lab, I felt SO proud of our ELL team. This time last semester, my team failed to deliver on both of the labs I led that day. But slowly, I am seeing myself grow and gain the confidence to take on challenges. Influence of Television Upon Modern Society Essay - 526 Words

Influence of Television Upon Modern Society Television is a form of media that has great ability to influence and brainwash the viewing public. The talking box in one’s living room has assumed the overpowering role it plays today as a result of the weakness of society. This may seem like a negative view but a society’s strength is based on the relationships between people and when so much time is spent away from others and together with the media, the actions that take place are often times a reflection of what television presents. In President Clinton’s speech, he brings forth this very point and he acknowledges the family’s increasing weakness and calls on all people to bring back the values of the past and stop the media from†¦show more content†¦The media has â€Å"more access†¦ to children†(Clinton, p.172) then ever before, and it can develop certain bad habits, patterns and subconscious actions if the individual is too weak to fight its affect. Therefore, parents must spen d more time with their children, otherwise, the old values will slowly slip away and new ones, established by television, will take their place for good. Television has incredible power. In a society where money signifies success and influence, television has taken its place among the most prosperous of businesses. Television cannot be attacked because it can and has successfully stood up to all sorts of challenges. The solution of changing its role in society lies within man himself. Television, despite many negative aspects, has much to offer. It is a great tool for learning, communication and for information. Attacking television may deprive us of such benefits therefore this trend must be approached with â€Å"more conversation and less combat†(Clinton, p.173). Instead of criticizing, we should look for alternatives that, in the long run, will benefit society. Detailed Analysis of Offender Rehabilitation Treatments Program

Question: Describe about offender rehabilitation treatments? Answer: Offender Rehabilitation Treatments Introduction Rehabilitation is generally considered to be a goal for re-incarceration. Throughout the decades there has been a lot of discussion and debates on the different types of rehabilitation treatments that can be undertaken for the offenders. Research has been conducted in order to elaborately study on these treatments of rehabilitation and their respective ability to reduce the rate of recidivism (Bernfeld, Farrington Leschied, 2001). A number of criminal justice researchers have been involved in the development of a theory as to the reasons behind for the working of some of these offender rehabilitation treatments and the not working of the others. In this study there are five offender rehabilitation treatments that has been discussed and researched. These five offender rehabilitation treatments are Psychological Behavior, Sex offender programs, Educational, vocational and Religious. Five different types of rehabilitation Treatment These different types of offender rehabilitation treatment have been discussed below. One of the very essential offender rehabilitation treatments is the rendering of vocational training of the prisoners. Irrespective of the offenders being juveniles, adults, criminals on remand or simple convicts these prisoners are made to go through vocational training while they are in the period of incarceration (Sagarin MacNamara, 1973). In most of the prisons in the country these trainings are given a lot of significance and it is hoped that the prisoners after being released from the prisons, they would be able to have a career that would be more successful that it was assumed. Some of the important things that any vocational training in the prison should be addressing are rehabilitation of the offender, reintegration of the offender and the questions as to whether the prisoners would do time or use time while they are in the training sessions. With regard to vocational training practices one of the prisons that underwent the vocational training practices is the Idaho Department of Correction offenders. The training involved the rendering of education to the prisoners, treatments and attending of various services. Prior to undergoing of these training programs the offenders are required to determine the condition of their health, their mental condition, the needs of the programs and the level of education of the prisoners. The other type of offender rehabilitation treatment is the treatment of the offenders based on education. The education treatment is generally in two separate parts. Firstly, the treatment is based on the case plans and secondly on the assessments. By preparing a proper case plan and creating a appropriate plan for accountability and then properly prioritizing the requirements of the offenders these people can be given proper educational facilities which would later assist them to successfully integrate in the society (Boer et al., 2011). There exists a variety of the core programs which has been identified and later these programs have been implemented in the correctional home and also in the communities. The third type of correctional treatment that has been dealt with in this study was conducting offender rehabilitation treatment through the process of religion. Research states that community correctional facilities should highlight the religious, moral and ethical sides of the society into these rehabilitation treatments. This is primarily due to the reason that generally religion plays a very significant part in developing the social as well as the personal responsibilities of the offenders. This would be helpful in reducing the rate of crimes and preventing further crimes in the country. Along with the victims the society also suffers a lot from the crimes that take place in the society. The next significant type of rehabilitation treatment would be through psychological treatment. This model of treatment is based on the primary facts that the offenders should be generalized and no discrimination should be made based on gender, race or class. This training model is primarily based on the cognitive skills and the pro-social skills (Andrews et al. 1990). The psychological approach through the help of experts and doctors tends to motivate the thinking style of the offenders and try to tilt their personalities positively so that when they move towards being incorporated in the society they would neither be a threat to the society and would also be able to incorporate themselves smoothly in the society (Gendreau, 1996). Finally one of the rehabilitation treatments undertaken for the specific criminals is the sex offenders programs. In this particular area there exist a number of different types of programs that can be implemented by the trainers (Marshall, 2011). One of the most important program in this area is one that comprises of a four month program that helps sex offenders who are generally in a position to inflict less risk or those who can be released after a certain period once supervision is completed and when they can be included in the treatment (Stump, Beamish Shellenberger, 1999). The treatment program is conducted through various topics and formats. Types and Classification of Offenders Even though there are a number of offender rehabilitation programs all the programs cannot be implemented on all the types of offenders. For instance the sex offender treatments programs are specifically for the offenders who have been convicted or have been accused for sex crimes. This is primarily because these types of offenders are generally affected mentally and psychologically (Casey, 2013). Hence they need to be treated accordingly. Offenders can be further categorized based on the seriousness of the crimes. Generally the offenders who are observed to be completing their term in the prison are the ones who are motivated towards religion and spiritual practices. Further criminals who have serious records in crimes are the ones who are given psychological rehabilitation in order to change their mindsets and make them appropriate for the outside society (Jensen Rojek, 2009). Also criminals who come from the lower strata of the society are the ones who would ignorant of education. Hence educating these criminals would be a good offender rehabilitation treatment for them. Vocational training may be given to those criminals for whom crime is the only way present to earn money. If these criminals are given an opportunity to earn money through lawful ways they would remove themselves from the path of crime. Therefore it can be stated that the type of rehabilitation program that would be applicable for the criminals depend on the needs of the criminals. Limitations and effectiveness of the programs All the five programs that has been mentioned here are subject to a number of limitations that depends on the types of criminals, the applicability of the programs with respect to the various circumstances, the expenses involved in the training programs that is to be incurred by the state. Nonetheless, these offender rehabilitation programs are also proven to be extremely effective in being able to motivate and reform the offenders for the betterment of the society (Holten, 2002). Hence it can be observed that all of these offender rehabilitation programs are not foolproof. Each of these programs has their own pros and cons. For instance the sex offender programs attempt to decrease the possible unusual behavior (Clear Dammer, 2000). It attempts to act as a all-inclusive treatment which tries to motivate the offenders, provide psychological and social education to the prisoners, evaluate them psychologically and prevent the relapse of the training programs (Osborn, 2007). These prog rams are generally structured in a minute manner for every person involved in the treatment. These programs further encourage the offenders to accept their guilt and be responsible for their criminal deeds (Marshall, 2011). These programs also generally record the progress of the individuals in the different stages of the treatments. The other offender rehabilitation programs such as the vocational training programs also have a lot of effectiveness. These programs keep in mind the work history of the offenders along with their training requirements (Finkelman, 1995). These details are critically analyzed with the requirements available in the labor markets. Depending on these the aftercare services are conducted in these training programs. The adjustments with regard to the vocational training are adjusted in accordance to the ex-offenders in the society and a close monitoring is done for rehabilitating and settling the processes (Pallone, 1993). With regard to the psychological approach for offender rehabilitation programs some of the basic requirements would be the manner in which services are delivered considering the cases which render high risks, the different styles and modes of treating the offenders and targeting the requirements for criminals (Cullen Applegate, 1997). These are the things that are essential for any psychological approach to be successful. All these forms of treatment can be applied to adult as well juvenile offenders. Hence for any offender rehabilitation treatment to be successful it is essential that these treatments are applied in the appropriate manner to reduce the risks of failure. Religious Method of Offender Rehabilitation Treatment Crimes and the behavior of criminals have always been a very important concern for all people throughout the world. The questions that arise in this regard is how the society should be responding to these behavior of the criminals and what needs to be done in order to reform these criminals. This study deals with the religious method that is used by the rehabilitators in order to reform the criminals. Research shows that the religious perspective of every individual plays a very significant part in shaping the society and the people of the country. Hence religion can be considered as a very significant tool to improve the condition of the prisoners in the country. In contemporary times there has been a wide vacuum in the correctional homes based on the religious and moral values. This gap is very astonishing since generally the public have always held that the role of religion would be very essential in reforming the criminals and throwing out the negative aspects from the minds of the criminals (Grimsrud Zehr, 2002). A number of commentators including famous sociologist Emile Durkheim have agreed to the facts that religion does play an important role in reformation of criminals. Religion primarily increases the social, personal and moral values of people and assists in decreasing the criminal behavior of the individuals. Research in this field dealing with religious methods to correct criminals have also increased and has also showed that through religion the criminals have been affected positively. Number of studies have proved that the involvement of religion in the prisons and among the inmates have gradually diverted their attention towards spirituality. Some of the other studies have shown that there happens to be a lot of differences between the inmates who have been given religious treatment and the ones who have not been given religious treatments (Casey, 2013). Further research on the influences of religion on recidivism, it has been observed that there exists three different studies and these three studies have been subject to various level of support, with regard to the connection between rate of recidivism and involvement of religion, from the reform community. These studies on the effect of religion on the correctional facilities have proven that the impact of religion on the offenders is very inspiring the relationship between the two is to be considered. Gradually most reformists are realizing that since religion is practiced in the prisons the expenses involved in the prisons would be extremely less and also it should be mentioned that generally a huge amount of contributions are made to the religious prisons by the prison chaplains and various other volunteers. A recent example may be provided in this regard. In the prison for men in South Carolina which is also known as the Lieber prison, it was observed that in a span of one year nearly one half of the prisoners attended a minimum of one prayer meeting that was organized by twenty three various religious groups inside the prison. In total there were almost eight hundred and sixty nine religious meetings that were held in the prisons with two of them being held each year. Two full time prison chaplains along with four other clerk inmates of the chaplain, some of the religious leaders who were inmates and another two hundred and thirty two volunteers contributed approximately twenty one hours in this process to arrange these religious gatherings and take an initiative to improve the criminal behaviors of the people. The cost that was required to be paid for each prisoner was around $150. Other scholars who have conducted reform programs for prisoners have stated that any good reform program that is generally conducted for the prisoners for reducing the infractions and recidivism usually tend to cost around $14,000 for each and every inmate in a year (Grimsrud Zehr, 2002). In most of the state prisons in the country there are at one third inmates who take interest in Bible group studies, or in religious services for worship or other religious activities. Research further states that religious programs is considered to be one of the most regular form of programs that is being practiced in most of the prisons in contemporary times. Some of the other most common programs after religion is the self help programs such as resolving problems, searching for jobs. These are prevalent in most of the state prisons in the United States of America. Hence from these data it is clear that even in the present times religion plays a very crucial part in the United States and also in the prisons of the country. This picture is evident even though there are no possible visions on religion or the formal expression of the meanings or regulations in the system (DiGiorgio-Miller, 1994). The religious reforms that took place in the prison in South Carolina were a result of the extreme hard work of a huge number of volunteers. Research states that the primary motivation for these inmates that was instilled by the religious volunteers was the fact that they should act in faith and they should try to create a difference. The prison inmates were gradually inclined to be motivated by the number of religious reasons such as bringing a positive change in the society or in the lives of the other people living in the society. There exist voluntary organizations in various parts of United States which have huge number of volunteers who work in the different parts of the justice system to rehabilitate the criminals and give them a better life. One such organization is Prison Fellowship which has approximately 50, 000 volunteers belonging from different churches and this depicts that religion indeed has the capability to bring about drastic changes in the offenders. However, it is important that these fellows have a will to change for the better and involve themselves in religious activities. In almost all countries morality and religion hold a very significant position and are crucial to the penal system. Hence it should be given equal importance for reforming and developing the correctional facilities so that the country is successful in creating a more just, kind and a society that is free of crimes. William Blake’s ‘Girls’ an Example of the Topic Literature Essays by

William Blake’s ‘Girls’ William Blakes poems Little Girl Lost and Little Girl Found read as one poem in an allegorical fashion. The parable, as Blake often writes with biblical themes, is about a child losing their way, coupled with the fear of the parent and the eventual finding of the child, not by the parents but by God, metaphorically appearing as a lion or tiger. As one poem is found in Songs of Innocence (Little Girl Lost) and the other poem appearing in Songs of Experience (Little Girl Found) it may be surmised that some earthly and harrowing event occurred in which separated these two poems into these different categories or songs, but that there exists a unification of the tale in the Song of Experience since it is with innocence that the little girl is lost. Need essay sample on "William Blakes Girls" topic? We will write a custom essay sample specifically for you Proceed Little Girl Lost begins with a couplet in which Blake rhymes age and page and time with crime (Blake); albeit these are very simple rhymes Blake used them purposefully to elaborate on the concept of innocence and to portray in his songs something childlike in the narrative. Blake uses simple rhymes in all of his poems in Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. The poem Little Girl Lost focuses on the parable of a little girl lost. The poem begins as a type of parable in which Blake instructs the reader by stating Children of the future age which is his way of referencing through the poem to the reader or children, and thus giving them instructions about living and life. Blake further exemplifies how life was In the age of gold (Blake) which would be equivalent to Once upon a time since the fairy tale image is very close to Blakes writing style although his poems are seemingly more urgent in their message. The story then progresses to give the reader a scene setting where the atmosphere is of warm temperament or free from the winters cold (Blake) and it speaks of youth, innocence, holiness and being naked. This resembles in some degrees the Garden of Eden. This conjecture can be made since most of Blakes poems are referencing points which direct the readers attention to scenes from the Old Testament. This Garden of Eden parable seems completely innocent in its forthcoming stage of youth and sunshine. Blake speaks about a youthful pair which could be Adam and Eve symbolically speaking which carry over to the next poem Little Girl Found in which God actually finds the little girl and the parents and brings them back together in a den of tigers, which could only mean heaven since the poems jointly speak of Waves oer heavens deep (Blake) and then lonely den(Blake). Blake introduces two lovers meeting in a garden bright(Blake) again the Eden imageryand Blake states that the maiden forgets her fear which could mean that she succumbs to the other lover, but in context with Adam and Eve it could mean she finds experience and thus her innocence is lost which would better explain the following stanzas. The maiden, after having experienced the lover goes to her father white which in keeping with the concept of the parable is God since God is typically imaged in a white gown with surrounding light. The maiden, upon seeing this image begins to shake which means that she is consciously aware of her actions and realizes that kissing her lover and gaining experience (albeit, having sex) makes her standing before God filled with sin and thus all her tender limbs with terror shook. The innocent would not shake with terror before God because they would not know what terror was; it is with the gaining of experience that the little girl shook in front of God. Following this, the next stanza reads in the voice of God pleading with the little girl to speak. Blake was also instructing in this poem to parents. God as the father figure is thwarted when the girl gains experience and is lost and chastises himself for his dismal care (Blake) which states to the readers that parents should not neglect nor lose their children for fear of what may happen to them. Following this Little Girl Found exemplifies the distraught nature of the parents who find that their child is missing. This song also begins with a rhyming couplet. The journey of the parents is very consciously written with the incorporation of nature. Like its predecessor, this poem begins with very exact images of nature; in juxtaposition to the garden image, this poem begins with a desert. This is Blakes clever way of emphasizing the plush and verdant garden and the analogy of this with innocence to the desert scenes that are dry and lacking life which emphasizes the parents sorrow. The parents travel for seven days and nights. In terms of a parable this is reminiscent of Noahs Ark and the traveling on faith alone for forty days and nights. The parents way is a pathless wandering which is typical of Blake to have the parents traveling in the wild without direction since Blake wants to reiterate the power of God and that it is only through God that a person may find their way; this was also true for the little girl who had lost her way but was found by God. Blake paints the parents in a very devastating manner; they are weak, pale, famished, weeping and all together trembling for bodily needs and comforts but mostly to find their daughter. The mother figure cannot bear to move any longer not only due to physical duress but also due to woe (Blake). Thus, the father figure, her husband has to bear her further in order to find their daughter. It is at this point in the journey or search that the parents come across a lion. They could not go back nor could they progress, as Blake states, Soon his heavy man Bore them to the ground, Then he stalked around (Blake). It is as though the lion is sizing them up, judging them and their power to continue the journey. As in the previous poem, it is with the appearance of the lion or the father or God that the individuals of each poem find their path. The parents at first fear the lion until he licks their hands (Blake) and then they realize that they are safe and in a way, they are found. Upon gazing at the lion the parents are surprised that it transforms or in biblical terms it transubstantiates into a spirit armed in gold (Blake) and on his head a crown (Blake) which is Blakes way of giving the audience a very full image without fear of misinterpretation. Upon the appearance of this golden entity any fear, or woe that the parents had previously has disappeared and in its place is hope which was not there prior to the appearance of the lion. Thus, God gives hope where once there was none, is how the parable would read. This entity, or God, tells the parents to Follow me (Blake) and they discover that God has in turn found their little girl. She resides in his palace sleeping. Blake describes the following scene is a very keen observation in relaying a parable; he juxtaposes this girl sleeping next to wild tigers. This is to emphasize that in the presence of God such physical dangers are unrealistic since with God nothing can harm a person. Thus, as the parents approach the girl and as the story states they dwell in the lonely dell (Blake) but alongside these wild creatures. The parents as well as the girl do not fear the wolvish howl Nor the lions growl (Blake) because they are in the presence of God. These poems jointly represent how it is only through the power of God that hope can be found; without God the pathway and journey is rugged and overgrown and people get lost, but through God the journey is able to be traversed. Thus, the Little Girl Lost and the Little Girl Found have biblical elements in both the allegory of the tiger as God and the allegory of being lost then found through God. Work Cited Blake, W. Why you should keep your networking circle small

Why you should keep your networking circle small When it comes to your professional network, the more the merrier, right? After all, more people = more chances for connection, word-of-mouth opportunities, etc. Sounds great in theory, but in reality, it might surprise you to learn that experts are recommending that you scale back your professional network and keep a smaller, more nimble group of people as your inner circle. There’s some debate over what that number actually is- evolutionary psychologist Robin Dunbar famously did a study and determined that 150 is the magic number of maintainable social/professional relationships in anyone’s life. The reality is that there’s probably no rigid number for each person’s professional network, but your limit should be where you can reasonably maintain a professional relationship with someone. If that sounds counterintuitive to you, here are some of the reasons you should think about downsizing your professional crew.Your network should be carefully curated and t ended. The whole point of networking is the relationships. Think back to your kindergarten class. Can you remember the names all 20 or so kids, or do you remember just a small subset of friends or particularly memorable kids? Our brains are conditioned to keep the most important information and discard the rest, and our social relationships tend to follow suit. You want your network to be people who are the most relevant to your professional growth and goals- not necessarily every person you’ve met since you were an intern at XYZ Corp. You want to focus on quality, not quantity. Some people in your network are, quite simply, going to be more useful and relevant to you than other people will be. Taking a close look at your network and who still aligns with your current professional self and your hoped-for-future professional self can help you define your goals. It’s okay to let people go.An unwieldy network of connections might be a symptom that you have trouble letting go or don’t want to risk hurting anyone’s feelings. Realistically, professional network â€Å"breakups† are easier than other kinds of social pruning. The stakes are low if you stop following someone on Twitter or remove them as a connection on LinkedIn. If you don’t find someone’s insights useful or are not likely to ever have a conversation with them again, why keep them kicking around in the social media ether? You don’t need to be obvious or mean about it or make a dramatic announcement about how you’re making cuts. Plus, it’s unlikely your coworker from three jobs ago is likely to send you a devastated â€Å"whyyyyyyyy?† message afterward. Chances are, they were getting about as much out of the relationship as you were.It gives you more bandwidth for long-term professional growth.Limiting your network to a small inner circle lets you put in more time and energy into building those relationships- emails, occasional hang outs, check-ins, etc. Networking isn’t just about getting something from others; it’s about building yourself as well and finding your people. You want your interactions with your network to be mutually beneficial- not a chore or a one-way transaction for either of you. If you’re hitting up someone in your network only when you’re sniffing for an opportunity, then your calls/texts/emails are likely to start going ignored. On the other hand, if you put time into getting to know someone, you both get the benefit of each other’s expertise and a deeper knowledge of what each person has to offer. When it comes to your network, remember: better, not more. There’s no prize for the number of LinkedIn connections, or the most â€Å"likes† on your latest professional rant on social media. You should be surrounded by people who know and support your goals, and vice versa- not hundreds of people who sort of know your name from scrolling through a newsfeed. You’ll find that your professional life- and your personal one as well- will be all the better for these higher-quality relationships.

The candidate must also have knowledge about medical science as this company provides a virtual network by which it offers a complete learning package, integrating the four important components which are anatomy, text, simulation and video. So, without having a thorough understanding of the various processes in medical science, it is not possible for a candidate to work in this framework. He should also have a thorough knowledge of the various medical tools that are being used today in the medical field. It is suggested that the company should look out for an experienced candidate who has been working in such a similar IT environment and is also quite familiar with the medical practices. The advertisement posted should be specific about the exact job specificat ions desired from a candidate. The language and the technique of writing the advertisement should have been more formal. This would have conveyed the urgency and the seriousness of the employer to find out the potential candidate for the position concerned. There is no need of unnecessarily stretching the advertisement and making it look cumbersome. A potential candidate might lose interest while reading the advertisement, if the person is in a hurry or is working at a higher managerial position in another company. This person may be looking for a prospective change in job and can be one of the desirable candidates for the position of IT manager. To attract the right candidate, which is the main objective of a proper recruitment strategy, it is absolutely necessary to post a precise, well written formal advertisement. It should be remembered that choosing a proper medium to communicate a job opening to a candidate is of utmost importance and secondly.

Harriet Jacob's Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Essay

Harriet Jacob's Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl - Essay Example I also think this quote is significant to me because as Harriet explains, both masters and mistress felt no sympathy to suffering slaves and even proclaimed to them heartlessly that heaven was not their place. In my own opinion and judgment I would imagine the extent to which these people suffered in the hands of their masters, despite the fact that in her childhood, Harriet mistress quoted the Bible and told her that she should not do any evil to her neighbor, it was the same mistress that was subjecting her and her family to slavery. This was a complete hypocrisy and furthermore, it demonstrates the extent to which the whites took slavery as part of their normal lives. Harriet Jacob’s story is more revealing in an exceptional way; it clearly demonstrates her desire to stand for her rights and the rights of other slaves that they suffered together. This is evident by the fact that she openly expressed her sufferings from sexual degradation and enslavement. She was able to rea ch the hearts of many people who later contributed to the fight against slavery. Jacob’s story also connects many other historical suffering that came before and after her story. In essence, in later 1960s in the era of the civil rights activists, many people were killed and their fundamental rights violated by their masters. In the extract from Fredrick Douglas The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro, â€Å"Fellow-citizens, pardon me, allow me to ask, why am I called upon to speak here to- day? What have I, or those I represent, to do with your national independence? Are the great principles of political freedom and of natural justice, embodied in that Declaration of Independence, extended to us? and am I, therefore, called upon to bring our humble offering to the national altar, and to confess the benefits and express devout gratitude for the blessings resulting from your independence to us?†(184) In this quote, Fredrick Douglas had been called upon to speak during the celebration party of the U.S. independence in Rochester, New York. He had previously made many speeches and lectures in an area of about five miles in Rochester. This speech was particularly important because despite the fact that America was celebrating its 76th birthday, Fredrick and what he represented did not have anything to celebrate about. This speech means a lot to me because Fredrick spoke in irony; he even asked questions about the relevance of the Independence Day to him and his fellow black slaves. This quote is significant in the sense that despite the age of the nation approaching a century, there was no freedom for the black community; racial segregation was the norm of the day. The rights of the minority were not recognized by the same country that they toiled to build. In my opinion and judgment, I would see the pain that Fredrick was undergoing; his speech is ironic and full of desire to get equal rights with their white counterparts who were celebrating the bi rth of their country. It was an irony and mocking to invite a slave to the celebration of their independence from the British government. This quote reveals Fredrick’s passion to end slavery; he clearly fought for his rights and the rights of his fellow minority black community. He resisted injustice by airing his views about the whole idea of freedom that the country was enjoying. His experience also connects with other civil rights activists that came after him and specifically during the 1960s with Malcom X and Martin Luther King. Both

Community Capacity Building Strategies | Evaluation

Community Capacity Building Strategies | Evaluation The article outlined below is an evaluation of the success or otherwise of the Community Capacity Building programmes within the United Kingdom. The original purposes of all the Community Capacity Building programmes in Britain was to increase the amount of social housing and also community based facilities actually available for those people that need the most. The Community Capacity Building programmes in Britain are as will be examined intended to maximise the level of local regeneration or renewal through the greater provision of social housing and community facilities without necessarily constructing large numbers of new purpose built buildings. The evaluation will seek to actively examine the examples of good practice as well as the examples of where the Community Capacity Building programmes have either gone wrong completely or have failed to live up to expectations. The Community Capacity Building programmes as will be examined are mainly concentrated in areas with higher num bers of black and ethnic minority community groups such as Birmingham, London, Manchester, and Glasgow. The over all objectives of the Community Capacity Building programmes is to improve the situation in local communities within the rural and urban areas with the greatest need for economic regeneration and renewal to be achieved. It was anticipated that such economic regeneration or renewal would strengthen local communities and thus go on to enhance their social cohesion.[1] The function of the Community Capacity Building programmes was to build up the most economically deprived local communities in a social sense at the same time as regenerating their physical environment by renovating existing buildings and facilities. The New Labour government also regarded the Community Capacity Building programmes as being connected to the other economic and social regeneration as well as renewal schemes that it introduced after coming into office in 1997.[2] It was the New Labour government that brought in the Community Capacity Building programmes throughout the whole of the United Kingdom. The Community Capacity Building programmes were administered differently in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales due to the New Labour government introducing devolution into Scotland and Wales.[3] To a large extent the Community Capacity Building programmes were regarded by the New Labour government as being complimentary to the already existing as well as the proposed regeneration and renewal schemes such as the Regional Development Corporations and the New Deal for Communities projects.[4] Indeed just like the New Deal for Communities projects the Community Capacity Building programmes were set up in such a way as to allow local communities to have a meaningful input into the regeneration and renewal schemes actually carried out.[5] The New Labour government hoped that the involvement of local communities in the decision-making process of the Community Capacity Building programmes would make such local communities feel more attached to those programmes. Due to the Community Capacity Building programmes being targeted towards the fighting of poverty and social exclusion inside the most deprived local communities these programmes have involved a high degree of participation from black and ethnic minority community groups.[6] Despite the Community Capacity Building programmes all having similar organisational frameworks as well as the same over all objectives there have been differences in the effectiveness and also the performance have become apparent. There have been good, indifferent, as well as bad practices can be discerned from those Community Capacity Building programmes which have been implemented in the United Kingdom.[7] There have certainly good practices, which have been followed in the implementation of the most successful of the Community Capacity Building programmes carried out within the United Kingdom. These good practices could also be followed in the Community Capacity Building programmes that have apparently failed or underachieved as well as helping to shape the structure and organisation of future regeneration or renewal programmes.[8] All of the Community Capacity Building programmes aim to increase the amount of social capital available within deprived local communities such as those in Birmingham, London, Manchester, and Glasgow whilst at the same time seeming to offer people better opportunities. The Community Capacity Building programmes are there to provide people in deprived areas the facilities and also the services that helps to improve the over all quality of their lives besides assisting the regeneration and the renewal of their local communities.[9] All of the Community Capacity Building programmes to differing degrees involve voluntary sector organisations as well as local community groups. It can convincingly argued that the Community Capacity Building programmes that have worked the best are the ones that have involved as many voluntary sector organisations and local community groups as possible in deciding the regeneration and renewal schemes that will be carried out. For the Community Capacity Building programmes the difficult part of involving a higher number of voluntary sector organisations and local community groups is that in can complicate the decision-making process, and thus lengthen the total time taken to fully implement the regeneration and renewal projects eventually agreed upon.[10] The ideal good practice for the Community Capacity Building programmes to achieve would be to effectively co-ordinate all the relevant voluntary sector organisations and local community groups in order to ensure the regeneration and the renewal projects are carried out without delay, and that such projects are finished successfully. The organisational key to achieving the intended regeneration and renewal projects is to arguably only to involve the most relevant voluntary sector organisations and local community groups that will have a part to play in ensuring the success of the Community Capacity Building programmes in any nearby areas.[11] Rural areas that have benefited from the introduction of these programmes included Teesdale and East Northamptonshire.[12] When it comes down to the successful completion of any of the Community Capacity Building programmes good practice has demonstrated the value of only involving the most relevant of the voluntary sector organisations and local community groups. These are the organisations and the groups that are needed to start and then finish the chosen regeneration and renewal projects previously agreed to. In the deprived areas of the United Kingdom in which the voluntary sector organisations and local community groups have exactly matching, or in fact similar outlooks it has proved to be easier to agree over the regeneration and renewal projects they wish to implement. There is the regeneration and the renewal projects that will add the most social value to the particular local area, the improvements that they have made possible in the first place. In the deprived areas in which the voluntary sector organisations and local community groups have co-operated in the Community Capacity Building progra mmes it has seemed that success has been most likely.[13] It has been assumed that the voluntary sector organisations and local community groups that are most important are those which represent black and ethnic minority communities and they will automatically not to mention unanimously agree on the regeneration and the renewal projects they need to fully implement. Unanimous or comprehensive support for regeneration and renewal projects will allow the Community Capacity Building programmes that enthusiastic voluntary sector organisations and local community groups are part of to be more successful. It is logical to argue that the Community Capacity Building programmes that have worked the most effectively have been the ones that have managed to gain wide-ranging agreement between the diverse voluntary sector organisations and local community groups involved in the decision-making process.[14] Examples of successful programmes have included Canning Town Outlook as well as the Secret Garden in Highgate Newtown.[15] Perhaps the best way of obtaining good practice in the implementation and also the running of the Community Capacity Building programmes is to adopt several regeneration and renewal projects in order to meet the needs of as many voluntary sector organisations and local community groups as possible. However to maximise the social value achieved due care has to be taken to make sure that only viable regeneration and renewal projects are adopted. It is good practice to select viable regeneration and renewal projects rather than simply choosing to spend scare funds on projects that are realistically un-viable, and will therefore not increase social capital, or indeed increase economic as well as social opportunities. The achievement of good practice is to make sure that the regeneration and also the renewal projects carried out are the best possible use of limited budgets. The voluntary sector organisations and local community groups that are given advise by other organisations, governme nt departments, and also local authorities can also make better decisions than those that are not given sound advise. However not all of the Community Capacity Building programmes have been a success when it comes down to the achievement of their objectives in relation to the full implementation of regeneration and renewal projects. The failure or the underachievement of some of the Community Capacity Building programmes is frequently due to the poor practices relating to the decision-making processes, which mean that the voluntary sector organisations and local community groups do not co-operate with each other effectively. Alternatively the voluntary sector organisations and local community groups that belong to failing Community Capacity Building programmes have contributed to the lack of success by failing to agree to regeneration and renewal projects.[16] The Community Capacity Building programmes across the United Kingdom have not all been able to make the voluntary sector organisations and local community groups enthusiastic about the community engagement required in order to successfully implement the regeneration and renewal projects to which they have agreed to. The voluntary sector organisations and local community groups may find it hard to find enough funds to carry out the regeneration and renewal projects that they want to implement the most to serve the needs of their local communities. The Community Capacity Building programme that has been widely considered to be the least successful was the one that covered the Glasgow area. The Glasgow Community Capacity Building programme was hindered by poor decision-making, as well as poor practices by the voluntary sector organisations and local community groups that belonged to it.[17] The voluntary sector organisations and local community groups that were part of the Glasgow Community Capacity Building programme to a large extent were unable to co-operate effectively with each other. The over all lack of co-operation and co-ordination between the voluntary sector organisations and local community groups belonging to the Glasgow Community Capacity Building programme had a knock on detrimental effect. This effect was noticeable when it came down to the speed and also the stability of decisions made with regard to regeneration and renewal projects. The slow pace of decision-making as well as unsuitable tarnished the reputation of the Glasgow Community Capacity Building programme. The poor reputation of the Glasgow Community Capacity Building programme has in many respects overshadowed the aspects of the regeneration and renewal projects that contributed to the improving the lot of the local communities within the Glasgow area. After all the Glasgow area has the large st concentration of black and ethnic minority communities in the whole of Scotland. Given the size of the black and ethnic minority population that live inside the Glasgow area it is hardly surprising that were difficulties in balancing the diverse interests of the voluntary sector organisations and local community groups within the vicinity.[18] It could be argued in fact that the success or failure of the Community Capacity Building programmes within the United Kingdom is determined by more than just good or bad operating practices within these programmes. The New Labour government although it was keen to establish and promote the Community Capacity Building programmes right across the whole of Britain intended that they would be linked with other bodies and institutions in raising living standards. Various voluntary sector organisations and local community groups ideally co-operate and co-ordinate with each other when part of their respective Community Capacity Building programmes yet they could not be expected to right all the problems of local communities in deprived rural and urban areas throughout the United Kingdom. The Community Capacity Building programmes were meant to complement other programmes or social schemes such New Deal for Communities.[19] Some of the differences in the ways in which the Community Capacity Building programmes operate are due to the introduction of devolved government in Scotland and Wales as much as via good and bad practice.[20] Therefore to summarize the Community Capacity Building programmes have undoubtedly played their part in the improving of the lives of the people that live in the most deprived areas of the United Kingdom. It is noticeable that the most successful Community Capacity Building programmes have allowed voluntary sector organisations and local community groups to co-operate with each other in order to implement regeneration and renewal projects quickly as well as successfully. The involvement of voluntary sector organisations and local community groups has meant that local communities have had a greater influence over the regeneration and renewal projects carried out as part of the Community Capacity Building programmes. The Community Capacity Building programmes are thus a means of allocating extra central government funding into the most deprived areas of the United Kingdom. Although such programmes allow voluntary sector organisations and local community groups to varying degrees of inf luence over subsequent regeneration and renewal projects they do not have enough funds from the central government to end economic and social deprivation overnight. The New Labour government has used other programmes such as the New Deal for Communities as well as the extension of social housing schemes to tackle poverty alongside the lack of affordable housing. The voluntary sector organisations and local community groups that are part of these programmes aware that although there are merits to the scheme there are also limitations to how much can actually be achieved in the most deprived areas of Britain. Food My family and I are absolute meat lovers; from poultry, fish, beef, and even an occasional pork diet. Despite the unhealthiness pork might cause there’s no discrimination when it comes to satisfying my family’s appetite. About the time when I was a young boy my mother would do her best to include vegetables in our meals. We hand a small, but very diverse garden in our backyard. They were the healthiest collard greens, bell and hot peppers you would ever notice. These greens would wave like trees in the spring winds that flew across southeast Texas. The green and red bell peppers were in comparison to a traffic light but without the caution. Once the afternoon arrived, I took that as an early hint that my house was going to start warming up, from the action taking place in the kitchen. I knew instantly that the air would be filled with an aroma that only my mom knew exactly. After the curiosity reached its peek, whatever was in the oven or on the stove would start to take its form. No matter what was being cooked, meatloaf steaks, chili with hot peppers, or catfish my mother would watch over the kitchen like she was the secret service guarding the president of the United States. Meat preparation would always seem to take a long while. I can remember sometimes the smell of chicken being fried stuck on your clothes. Or the smell of bar-b-q roaming down the block just to make its way up my nose. I would ask my friends do you smell that and they would reply strongly, â€Å"No,† like I was having dreams or been in the sun too long. Although I’m a carnivore, and to me meat is essential in my lifestyle, having balance with my meals played a significant role in my development. As you get older one person can see the value eating vegetables and other sources of nutritious foods have. My absolute favorite was greens and others related to it. It was something about those steamy greens that made them almost perfect. What gave them there wonderful smell was the precise amount of pepper and sometimes, for instance, if you were to look into and study that pot of greens you can see little black specs of pepper floating around in the water as they boiled to temperature so hot it would sizzle you skin.
